To celebrate the launch of the Ikea Place app on Android, we made a game show. Hosted by instagram personality Caroline Solomon aka @lowcheekbones, Matchers Keepers plays on the how difficult agreeing on furniture with a roommate can be and how AR just might be able to help.
I did two seasons of my show Practically Useful for MTV Other. Episodes were written by me, and co-directed by me and Eric Fensler. Inventions in the episodes were conceived and built by me.
Here are a few of my favorite episodes.
As a fan of Amelie and Delicatessen and City of Lost Children I was thrilled to get to meet and work with Jean-Pierre Jeunet on this.
As a writer of ads, I was proud to write a script that consisted solely of the product name (Snowballs) being repeated 9 times in a row. That is efficiency!
A machine I built to separated the cream from the cookie in an Oreo. Designed, manufactured and programmed by me. Answers in the video were written by me on the spot.
In addition to the mechanical problems this presented, it was one of the only times I’ve used multiple Arduinos working together on one project.
I couldn’t handle reading all of Don Trump’s tweets, but ignoring them didn’t feel right either. Instead I built this robot.
It waits for the President to tweet, then downloads the tweet, prints the tweet, and sets it on fire. It also films the whole process and retweets the video at him, with the caption “I burned your tweet.”
CNN covered it, and how I kept it safe in my bathtub.
We made a bear-shaped deodorant holder to go on the Old Spice store. And we made an ad to promote it.
Developing an actual product and the packaging for it was a completely different workflow than what we’d done before. It was a lot of fun and a lot of work.
Big Shaq mentioned the Lynx Effect in his song “Man’s Not Hot.” 72 and Sunny wanted Axe to do something to acknowledge the mention. I designed, wired and made a few of these cans for him and some of his fans.
The Old Spice Guy doesn’t just smell generous, he actually is. This year, he gave a gift to every human on earth.
A project I did at WK Portland. A guitar that converts notes into letters so that you can practice shredding the guitar while you’re writing emails.
The Telephone Operator is a robot I built to take care of my social media obligations, leaving me free to go for a bike ride or update my portfolio website.
A produced but unfortunately unreleased promo for the EA game Darkspore. Josh introduces Ghostface Killah to the game.
